Skandan reviews performance of AH, fisheries departments

Jammu, Sept 7: Advisor K. Skandan today reviewed the physical and financial achievements and working of Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Departments, here at a meeting.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Animal/Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu Dr. Tahir Baig, Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Director Fisheries R.N Pandita, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Pankaj Magotra besides Chief Animal Husbandry Officers of the districts and other concerned officers of the department.
The Director AH gave a detailed resume of achievements made by department. He informed that over 9200 livestock and poultry farmers are sponsored for Kissan Credit Card scheme and 7500 beneficiaries identified for cattle insurance under Risk management component of National Livestock Mission 2018-19 and 15000 for NLM 2019-20. He added that 1861 cases under DEDS have been sponsored to establish dairy units at various places. He informed that three Poultry Estates have been established at Jammu, Reasi and Samba adding that an IEC Cell has also been established in the Directorate.
The Director AH expressed gratitude to the Advisor and Principal Secretary for creating 400 posts of VAS, retrieving of 1400 Kanal land at Rajouri and framing rules for bovine breeding to regulate breeding activities in cattle besides allocating highest budget ever to the Animal/Sheep Husbandry Departments.
Speaking at the meeting, Skandan directed the officials to focus on development of livestock, dairy, hatcheries and poultry farms on latest techniques so that more revenue can be generated, which, he said will help to provide ample opportunities for the educated unemployed youth of the State.
He asked the concerned officers to work with utmost dedication and achieve the fixed targets in full. He also asked them to utilize the funds earmarked for different centrally and state sponsored schemes in full and judiciously. He called for redoubling the efforts to make the state self-reliant in dairy production and poultry and the sector as an important pillar of economy.
Later, the Advisor inaugurated Microbiological laboratory at Central Artificial Breeding Station (CABS) in Hakkal and also inspected the newly renovated building of Central Veterinary Hospital at Talab Tillo.
