Brace up for implementation of RTE Act: Sarita Chauhan

Jammu, Sept 7: A meeting to review the progress of ongoing School Education civil works in Jammu Division was held today here under the chairpersonship of Commissioner/ Secretary, School Education Sarita Chauhan.
The Director School Education and State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the ongoing works.
The Commissioner/Secretary took a detailed review of progress of construction work with respect to opening of new schools, strengthening of existing infrastructure in schools, construction of Boundary walls, etc. She also reviewed the construction of KGBVs (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya) approved under PAB, MHRD and State Capex during 2018-19 & 2019-20.
Details of progress made in Languishing Projects implemented under IDFC for School Education Department were also presented.
The Secretary instructed Director and State Project Director to constitute District Level Committees comprising Joint Director-Education, CEOs, State Coordinators-Samagra Shiksha and Engineers from Engineering Wing of Education Department for physical monitoring of progress achieved under Civil Works and to sort out issues at district level. She further asked to resolve the issues involving availability of land in coordination with Panchayati Raj Institutions.
The Secretary also reiterated that the CEOs shall strictly follow the court cases wherever land disputes prevail and make all possible endeavors to make availability of land or alternate land sites. She stressed upon all Chief Education Officers to involve in facilitating the work under Civil Works in their respective districts and to furnish a status report on necessary school infrastructure at regular intervals to DSEJ and SPD and to direct the ZEOs to visit the construction sites and report on pace of work.
The Commissioner Secretary also sensitized the CEOs about Right to Education Act and the related legal responsibility of the state. She asked the department to gear up for the implementation of RTE Act at the earliest and also deliberated upon National Curriculum Framework. She directed Principal State Institute of Education to conduct Awareness Workshop for CEOs on RTE and NCF.
The Officers present in the meeting were Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Jammu, Dr Arun Manhas State Project Director Samagra Shiksha, Joint Directors, Chief Education Officers, Executive Engineer and other Engineering Staff of Education Department.
