Attempt to evade toll on raw skin foiled

Jammu, Sept 7: A major Toll evasion attempt was foiled at Toll Post, Lakhanpur on the intervening night of 4th/5th of September, 2019 by the vigilant sleuths of Toll Post.
The noticed a driver of vehicle bearing No. JK02AC-3987 with a malafide intention declared loaded goods as Pears (exempted item) at Assessment counter of this Toll Post and also furnished forged documents for clearance of his vehicle.
The Assessment Officer, Inspector Javed Iqbal subjected the vehicle for physical check, however in the mean time the driver fled from the spot alongwith said vehicle. The vehicle was chased and apprehended at Madhopur by team of Excise Officer/ Officials comprising of Excise & Taxation Officer, Aamir Ayaiz Rather, Inspectors Bilal Ahmed Kraipak, Mansoor Ahmed, Excise Guard Abdul Majeed Mir and Driver Sohan Lal and the vehicle was brought back to Toll Post Lakhanpur.
The vehicle was thoroughly checked and was found loaded with 9000 kgs of 'Raw skin' (Tollable item) instead of Pears (exempted item) as declared by the representatives of the vehicle. A penalty of Rs. 99,000/- was imposed and recovered from the defaulters and accordingly the vehicle along with representatives were handed over to Police station Lakhanpur for further necessary action at their end.
Similarly another attempt of Bovine Smuggling was foiled by the alert Toll Post officials recently on 29-08-2019 in Export Side where a Mahindra Jeep (Without Number Plate) fled away from the Toll Post, the vehicle was chased and apprehended at Madhopur brought back to Lakhanpur. The vehicle was checked and found loaded with 4 bovines and later the vehicles were handed over to Police.
These operations were supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur Ashish Kumar Gupta. M. Raju, Excise Commissioner, J&K Government, Jammu lauded the efforts of team Lakhnapur and directed for more stringent monitoring and enforcement at Toll Post to thwart the evil design of Toll Tax evaders/ smugglers.
