Seminar on Environment conservation, Solid Waste Management held at GCW Parade

Jammu, September 07: District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today organized a seminar on "Conservation of Environment and Solid Waste Management" here at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade.
The event held on the directions of Justice Gita Mittal Chief Justice of J&K High Court & Patron-in-Chief J&K SLSA and Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority, was aimed at to educate the students and the people about the need/importance of Conservation of Environment, Solid Waste Management and responsibility of citizens towards the cleanliness and removal of Solid Wastage on daily basis.
Mayor Jammu Chander Mohan Gupta, Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Jammu Pankaj Magotra, Chairman Health and Sanitation Committee Jammu Surinder Billoweria, Chairman Swach Bharat Committee Suraj Padha, Secretary Municipal Corporation Jammu Sunaina Mehta, Corporators Civil Society, students, faculty members and non teaching staff Secretary DLSA Jammu, Naushad Ahmed Khan attended the seminar.
The programme started with the welcome address of professor (Dr) Bharat Bhushan Anand. He explained the students in detail about the importance of Environment and that Solid Waste Management. He said Solid Waste Management is one of the most essential services for maintaining the quality of life in urban areas and for ensuring better standards of health and hygiene.
Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma, and Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Magotra, also enlightened the students about the various Environmental issues and stressed upon that environmental right is an extension of the basic Human Rights and all of us duty bound to protect the environment. He made aware the gathering to understand ill effects of usage of Plastics/Polythene and take necessary steps for minimizing the generation of Solid Waste in Day to Day life.
Advocate Jyoti Majotra and Dr. Arti Sharma, Professor Environmental Sciences and students Seerat Malik, Shilpa Koul, Mehar Fatima, Priyanka khuller and Riya Gupta also spoke on the topic and stressed upon the collection of such waste from Educational Institutions, Households, Hospitals, Banquet Halls and Dairy farms.
Later, theatre artist made the programme more attractive by performing Nukkad Natak on "Say No to Plastic/Polythene" and segregation of non bio degradable material from biodegradable material. The programme culminated with the Pledge to keep environment clean, safe and hygienic.
