JAMMU, Sept 9: Against the spirit of work culture, more than one hundred surplus teaching faculty members have been getting hefty salaries without doing any work as they have been deputed against the posts of other subjects, to avoid postings in the colleges, where they are actually required.
Sources in the department informed Early Times that in the city colleges of Jammu alone, over one hundred faculty members including Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors have been posted against the posts of other subjects or against the sanctioned posts, excess of faculty members have been deputed.
"Against three posts of a subject in colleges, five to six faculty members have been deputed by Higher Education department in the city colleges of Jammu alone, whereas some faculty members have been deputed against the post of other subjects", sources said, adding that even teaching faculty of medical or non-medical sciences have been deputed in the colleges, where only Arts' stream has been taught.
Sources further disclosed that normally an Assistant Professor is getting salary above Rs. 65000 while an Associate Professor's salary is above Rs. 1.5 Lakhs and a Professor is getting salary above Rs. 2 Lakhs but these extra faculty members have not been doing any work.
"In most of city colleges, several surplus staff has been posted and similar is the condition in peripheral colleges of Jammu rural areas. The colleges which have excess faculty members, the senior faculty members seldom take classes but gets salary routinely", sources said, adding that if the government has been claiming of bringing work culture, why action has not been taken against these faculty members?.
An official of department further claimed that the all high talks of nipping corruption in the bud or taking action against corruptive practices was only for media consumption but on ground level, the officials of Higher Education department have not been taking any action, despite aware of the issue.
The Governor administration must take a call on the issue and get these excess teachers posted in peripheral colleges, where there is acute shortage of teaching faculty.
