Once NC regains power it may forget about its campaign in favour of restoration of Article 370 and 35-A
9/10/2019 9:54:18 PM
Among the Kashmir centric parties The National Conference is in the forefront of the campaign against revocation of Article 35-A and Article 370.In fact the leadership of the NC has voiced concern over the uncertain and uptight situation in Jammu and Kashmir and said the party would fight against any infringement of the special the constitutional status of the state. The NC had a four-hour-long meeting of its party's political affairs committee (PAC) over the current situation in the valley. The meeting was chaired by party vice-president Omar Abdullah. After the meeting, an NC spokesperson said, the party called for "effective and immediate" measures to instil confidence among the people in the Kashmir valley knowing that people in the regions of Jammu and Ladakh are satisfied with the new formula under which the region of Ladakh has been given the union Territory status. And the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been directed to maintain union territory status. But at the same time the centre has promised that the state of Jammu region and the vale of Kashmir may merge He said the party is willing to go an extra mile to defend Article 370 and Article 35-A of the Constitution. The party also said the need of the hour calls for well-considered response to the situation.. And the crux of the situation meaning the stand of the National Conference is voter oriented. In order to regain power it wants to fight against revocation of Article 370 an d 35-A.Once the party regains power it would not be able to fulfill the voters' demand. Voters want restoration of special status and the separate state subject laws that were revoked by the centre. And the way the two Houses of Parliament supported the revocation of Article 370 and 35-A means that neither the supreme court nor the state Legislature had the powers to demand its restoration. The meeting was called to deliberate on the prevailing situation in the state, and NC spokesperson said Among the Kashmir centric parties the NC was in the forefront of the campaign launched against restoration of the erstwhile constitutional guarantees. But this is not the time for the centre to accept any demand of the NC and other Kashmir centric parties for restoration of Article 370 and 35-A. The fight is simply to woo voters and after the NC won the power it would forget about the campaign it had launched on the restoration of Article 370 and 35A.Even if any party other than the NC will regain power it may forget about the restoration of Article 370 and 35-A.
