APS celebrates birthday of Vir Chakra awardee

Jammu, Sept 10: Army Public School Rakhmuthi celebrated its school hero Maj. Devinderjit Singh Pannu's birthday. Major Devinderjit of 5 SIKH Regiment had laid down his life in a key battle for the defence of Chhamb on 5 Dec 1971.
He was awarded the Vir Chakra (Posthumous) for this act of gallantry. The special day was presided over by Col N.J.S Pannu (Retd.) brother of school Hero and theChairman of APS Rakhmuthi. The programme commenced with the traditional candle lighting and garland ceremony. It was followed by mesmerizing patriotic dance and the school song which was applauded by the audience.
Col N.J.S. Pannu (Retd.) awarded scholarship of Rs 10000 each to the three best students of class XI in session 2018-19, Nikhil Sharma for securing highest marks in class XI A (Science Stream), Niti Choudhary for class XI B (Commerce Stream), Janvi Sharma for class XI C (Humanities) and one scholarship of Rs 10000 to Riya Chib for class X A for their exemplary achievement in academics and other areas.
Then sweets were given to each class which was collected by the class monitors. Col. N.J.S. Pannu (Retd.) addressed everyone and emphasized the need for hard-work and discipline to build the personality of the students.
At last, Shaswati Ghosh- Principal APS Rakhmuthi expressed her words of gratitude to the guest, the Chairman, teachers and students who have thrived to make this event a grand success.
