'Smart Targeting' soon for J&K police cops to counter terrorists
9/10/2019 10:19:45 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 10: To impart professional skills and counter insurgency operations in a professional manner, Jammu and Kashmir police has announced to train its men in 'smart targeting' from the month of October. The jawans of J&K police from next month will be trained in 'smart targeting' and once skilled, they will hit the target especially the terrorists, more accurately, departmental sources said.
They said that the technology will give fruitful results in anti-insurgency operations, adding, ''The jawans undergoing training at different centres of J&K police or those, who will be joining in future, will be more skilled in targeting the enemy after undergoing this 'eight-lane smart targeting' training.'' ''This is computerised technology and will help the trainees to accurately hit the target without making any mistake in a short duration,'' Mubassir Latifi, AIG Provision and Transport here said. Mr Latifi added, ''The exercise will begin from the month of October and initially it will be undertaken at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur and later at Police Training Centre Manigam, Kashmir, as they are the major training academies of the department.'' The senior officer further said different companies have been invited for the task and sooner one of them will be handed over the task and training will be introduced in the academy. ''Presently, trainees are targeting a board from a distance and the person on duty has to go to nearby that board to find out whether the target has accurately hit or not,'' he added and said that it is a time consuming process but once the 'smart targeting' will be part of training, the level of accuracy will automatically get displayed on the computer screen soon after it hit the target. ''This exercise will be a game changer especially during combat operations as the terrorists keep on shifting, moving their positions and the men underwent 'smart training', will easily hit the target without any hiccups,'' said Mr Latifi, adding that in later stage, the police personnel, who are already occupied in the department, will also be imparted with this training in batches besides the new recruits.
