Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 10: Keeping in view the incidents of social crime like chain, purse snatching, thefts, besides other, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department had introduced 15 motorbikes 'Special Squad' in the year of 2012 but the special squad have not seen these days in Jammu district.
According to Police sources told Early Times that the 'Special Squad' had been introduced with an idea to conduct visits in congested lanes, roads where the police gypsies were not able to conduct race and the criminals sometimes manage to give slip to the police. That time police had six motorbikes comprising 12-member squad and later 9 motorbikes were also provided for manning crime in the entire Jammu district. The bikes were distributed each Police Station of Jammu city then and two police personnel were designated each bike and special uniforms were also distributed among them.
If Police sources are to be believed, it was tested formula which remained quite successful to curb the crime. The squad was not only covered a particular assignment but also worked on various beats which were given to them.
"As soon as the transfer of the then senior Police officers along with officials who were trained for the special squad, the same made dysfunctional gradually due to its fuel and maintenance cost and later it's propose was defeated to lack of approach of the concerned Police Stations, "Sources believed, adding where these bikes have gone no one knows. The amount spent of the special squad has gone in vain.
However, the Police Department denied and claimed that the concerned Police Stations have the above-said bikes and using them. The department has upgraded itself and introduced speeding 'Police Patrolling Vans' and they are working well to monitor the overall situation.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Tejinder Singh told that the department had upgraded itself by introducing patrolling vehicles. The vehicles were more useful to chase any anti-element and it also helped the police department to solve many cases in a short time.
