People look towards GoI to address their concerns
Number of illegal migrants swelling in Jammu
9/10/2019 11:22:25 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 10: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that all the illegal migrants will be expelled from the entire country.
"Our intention is to expel illegal migrants from the entire country and not just Assam," Shah said.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said," Home Minister Amit Shah needs to pay attention towards Jammu region also where thousands of illegal migrants including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis have been living illegally for many years."
He said that when PDP led coalition government was in power in Jammu & Kashmir, Peoples' Democratic Party blocked all the attempts to deport illegal migrants from Jammu region.
"After the fall of PDP led government in the state not much headway has been made to deport the illegal migrants from Jammu region. These illegal migrants pose a threat to peace and tranquility and could emerge as a big problem if not addressed forthwith," the analyst added.
A politician said,"Jammu during all these years has been struggling to keep its identity intact. After the reorganization of Jammu & Kashmir into two union territories, now it is the responsibilty of the central government to protect the unique identity of Dogras and allow them to safeguard their traditions and culture."
He said," The reorganization of Jammu & Kashmir has provided the Government of India with an opportunity to handle the affairs of the J&K directly as Kashmir-centric parties, which used to block the moves aimed at safeguarding national interests, have been cut to size."
He said," Its an open secret that neither the National Conference nor the PDP tried to address the issue of illegal migrants in Jammu region when they were ruling the state. They just pushed it under the carpet and allowed their population to swell."
An observer said the central government should address the issue of illegal migrants before the next assembly elections are held in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. At present ball is in the court of New Delhi and it needs to act to address the burning issues which touch the skin of a common man in Jammu region.
Another analyst said," Many people in Jammu region believe that there is a need for National Register of Citizens in Jammu to identify the illegal migrants so that the appropriate action could be taken against them."
He said," There is no denial to the fact that Jammu is a frontier region and there are many sensitivities attached to it.The Government of India needs to address these issues to address the concerns of a common man in Jammu."
