40 infiltrators have entered Jammu and Kashmir: Sources
9/11/2019 3:26:56 PM
At least 40 terrorists are suspected to have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and entered Jammu and Kashmir from the Pakistani side, sources in the security agencies told India Today TV. The security forces are apprehensive that these men may have been sent to carry out attacks on various installations.

There have been several attempts at infiltrations at various places along the LoC. Many of them have been foiled. We are looking into the possibility whether some may have crossed over, said Dilbag Singh, J&K Police director general.

The security agencies have stepped up vigil in the state after intelligence about infiltration was received. The agencies suspect that the infiltrators are heavily armed and have received training on the other side of the LoC.

Sources said the security agencies have foiled several infiltration bids recently along the Line of Control. However, a few have succeeded, they said, in their attempts to infiltrate. The security agencies are on high alert, they said.

They [Pakistan] have moved hundreds of terrorists near the launch pads in the past few days. They are trying to push them in, said a senior police officer.

Police and other security officers are saying that all efforts are being made to track every development. According to the security agencies, there is an effort being made to create tension in the valley. The terrorist groups have been given directions to engage in creating chaos.

We know they are trying, however, they are still to find their feet in the Valley given the kind of situation...There is hardly any communication between them also, said a police officer.

While lack of communication may have hindered the terrorist groups, many in the security forces also say that it has also affected the operational capability of the security forces. Most of the source network is down as phones are not working. This is also being seen as one of the reasons as to why no major encounters have taken place in the past one month.

Last week security forces apprehended two persons, Khalid and Nazim, both residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad, in the Gulmarg range. Both of them were acting as guides helping infiltrators to cross over. An officer said that they were being questioned on Pakistan’s attempts to engage troops in Gulmarg sector. There have been reports of movement of a large number of gunmen along the Loc in this sector. The army has sent reinforcements to these areas on the LoC, according to sources.
