Jammu, Sept 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, SKUAST-Kashmir organized live telecast of the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) inaugurated by Prime minister Narendra Modi from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh for the farmers of the region. The programme was attended by 50 women farmers from adjoining villages. Addressing the farming community Dr. D. Namgyal Programme Coordinator and Head Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh said that this is the largest animal diseases control programme launched by the central government to control Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis. Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis are two deadly diseases of livestock that result in a huge loss to the farming community as well as to the country's economy.
Launched with an outlay of rupees 13,000 crore, by this programme the government aims to benefit about 55 crore livestock that will include cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep and pigs. Under the said programme vaccination will be given to the livestock twice a year. After vaccination the animals will be provided with a unique AADHAR no. and a animal health card. The programme was also attended by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. Kunzang Lamo, Dr, P. Tundup and Dr Tauseef Ahmed all subject Matter Specialists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Leh.
