Jammu, Sept 11: With an aim to promote 'Healthy Living and Personal Hygiene', a guest lecture on healthy food habits and Lifestyle was organized in Delhi Public School Nagbani, Jammu -(West) today. Dr. Mitali Gupta was the resource person who said that a child's mental and physical development is closely tied to good nutrition and healthy eating habits. She stressed that healthy habits also affect children's behavior and social growth. She told the teachers that as educators, they may use numerous teaching strategies to engage students but if the child's diet has not met his order basic nutritional needs then their efforts prove to be ineffective. It is important for a child to consume a well- balanced diet and participate in regular physical activities to achieve success in life. She added that developing positive eating habits during childhood contributes to gaining health and self esteem, decreases the risk of immediate and long- term health problems. She said that health programmes like this one can help children attain full educational potential by attracting them to eat vegetables and salads at an early age. Nutritious eating should be part of their diet as they continue into their teen and adult years. They should be given knowledge of where their food comes from and how it is grown. They should be encouraged to grow some of the food at their own homes.
