Jammu, Sept 11: Citing scrapping of two articles that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir as a pro-women step, former minister, spokesperson and Prabhari BJP Mahila Morcha here Priya Sethi said on Wednesday that Article 370 is responsible for present situation in Kashmir valley and the article was anti-women, anti-development and anti-human rights.
Ms Sethi, added that the article has not only worked against democracy and development of women in Jammu and Kashmir but has also led to the ill-treatment of womenfolk here.
'After Narendra Modi government's decision on Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), women would no longer be deprived of their property rights even if they marry a non-resident,' she said here in a statement.
'Article 35A, which emanated from Article 370, prohibited them, till recently, to be property owners if they marry an outsider.'
She further said that the Article 370 was fully misused by regional politicians of the valley. 'This is the reason why the children of this valley had stones instead of laptops in their hands because they were deliberately disconnected from the country,' she added. |
