DC Jammu urges people to say no to single use plastic

Jammu, Sept 12: Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan today launched Solid Waste management Campaign in Jammu district here from Polytechnic College.
ACD Aijaz Qaiser, Principle Polytechnic College Er. Arun Bangotra, PO ICDS Natasha Kalsotra, CMO Danish Khan, DPO Sunaina Kotwal, Nodal Officer Solid Waste Management JMC Dr Zaffar Iqbal, BDOs and other senior officers of the concerned department along with Sarpanchs of the district were present at the function - organized by Rural Development Department.
In her address, the Deputy Commissioner said that solid waste management is an important component for sustainable development and needs special focus. Every department and functionary associated with this campaign shall put in a committed effort to achieve the desired results on the ground, she added. She also stressed upon to involve sarpanchs and panchs to make the mission a success.
She said that a competition regarding this awareness campaign will be held from 11th to 26th September. All the panchayats of Jammu district will participate in this competition to create awareness among the masses regarding 'no use of single use plastic' in their area. She further informed that a three member team will be constituted comprising ADC, ACR and DPO, which will finalize the six winners of awareness campaign to be concluded on 26th of this month.
She said that district administration will also involve schools in this campaign and schools and students will be asked to collect the plastic waste material from their respective homes which will be further collected by the department. The schools and students which will collect the maximum waste material will be awarded as "Green Champions" at a function to be held on 2nd October.
