Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 12: With no let up in allegations of discrimination with Jammu city, in latest, the administration has sanctioned additional rupees Rs 28 crores for modernization of Srinagar city.
The Raj Bhawan has granted additional funds for the summer capital as a part of the improvement of civic amenities in Srinagar. The additional funds will be spent through the Srinagar Municipal Corporation for upgration of civic facilities installation of new lights.
As per official records, each of the councilor of the SMC has given Rs 25 lakhs from the new kitty, apart from the previously allotted funds.
But this undue benefit for Srinagar has come up at the cost of Jammu, that too when the winter capital has actually welcomed New Delhi decision of abrogating the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said the additional funds have been granted to gear up the development activities in city that has been made by over one month of hartal since the abrogation of the special status on Aug 5.
Official said it was ironic that at time when such funds should have been given to Jammu city for having upheld the nationalist sentiments, the money has been granted for those harboring separatists sentiments.
A senior official told Early Times on the condition of anonymity that is was unfortunate on the part of the administration to have been so concerned towards the city where separatists' sentiments continue loom large whereas the city that also stood for the nationalist sentiments is being pushed to discrimination. Despite repeated attempts, the concerned could not be contacted for comments.
