JAMMU, Sept 14: Prime Minister has launched a mission mode water conservation campaign 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' and has also stressed to make India free from 'Single use plastic', so in connection with NSS unit of Govt. Degree College RS Pura carried out a series of activities under the guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Sunita Sudan.
A Jal Shakti Team was framed in and off the college including faculty members of different departments of the college like Prof. Richpal Singh ( Deptt. of Urdu), Prof. S. K. Dhar ( Deptt. of Botany), Prof. Dharvinder (Deptt. of Zoology) , Prof. Bindu Kumari ( NSS Programme Officer), Chander Prabha (Sarpanch of the village Jindhlehr) and NSS Volunteers. An awareness lecture was also delivered by Prof. Esha Abrol on the topic, " Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting followed by a group discussion. Next day an awareness campaign was carried out in the adopted village Jindhlehr where the volunteers interacted with the villagers and educate them about the importance of water conservation, its management, harmful effects of plastics esp. Single use plastic and others. On the other day, volunteers again visited the village Jindhlehr and planted a number of saplings there and sensitized them about the role of plants in the conservation of water, controlling soil erosion and in purifying and cooling the atmosphere thereby bringing down the rainfall. Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of NSS Programme Officer and Volunteers and motivated them to keep on doing such activities in future also.
