Forces getting delayed inputs on terror movement amid communication blackout
9/15/2019 10:15:51 PM
Early Times Report

Shopian, Sept 15: Security forces are unable to get quick inputs about movement of terrorists in the Kashmir Valley as the communication blackout has gone beyond 40 days. With forces depending on sources on the ground to give actionable intelligence and tracking the movements of the terrorists through mobile connectivity, the information coming in is usually delayed.
Sources said most instances information is a day or two old. Launching operations has been a challenge with real-time information not being available, an official part of counter terror operations in Kashmir said.
With terrorists indulging in acts of violence like burning apple orchards impacting the livelihood of the local population, forces have been urging people to come out and give information on terrorists.
With information coming in late, security forces have enhanced the patrolling of volatile villages in South Kashmir and have been keeping a close watch on apple orchards after the burning incidents.
We are making appeals to the people and engaging more with the locals to convince them that giving any kind of support to terrorists will only make things worse for them. The locals need to stand up against these incidents, an official said.
Officials say that there has been no spike in terror recruitment after the abrogation of Article 370. The numbers show a similar trend to previous months.
South Kashmir has been a hub of terror activities and forces intensified cordon and search operations after Article 370 was abrogated.
Sources said the forces have been engaging with elders and responsible locals, giving them the task to ensure that mobs don't indulge in stone pelting or any activities that will aid terror groups.
Interestingly, South Kashmir has been clam compared to Srinagar and adjoining areas.
According to government estimates, out of 187 incidents of violence 165 took place in Srinagar.
