Independent councilors raise several problems, allege discrimination with Jammu | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 17: Independent councilors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) have expressed concern over the problems being faced by them as well as people living within municipal area. Addressing a press conference here today, the independent councilors said that about 11 months have lapsed after the completion of election to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). They said that due to the delay in conduct of the ULB polls, the union government had blocked huge funds, however, after the process of elections, the Councillors as well as people living within municipal limits had high hopes that Government of India will now releases funds for developmental activities. The independent councilors said that all the councilors of JMC irrespective of political affiliations are facing problem due to shortage of funds for developmental activities. After lapse of 11 months, work of stage 1st to the tune of Rs 10.00 lakh only could be completed, they added. The councilors said that though the Governor announced ample funding for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation he did not bother about the release of funds in case of Jammu Municipal Corporation. The councilors also raised the issue of shortage of Safai Karamcharis in different wards of Jammu city besides they demanded enquiry against allegations of corruption on JMC officers and highlighted several other concerns affecting the smooth functioning of the JMC. |
