Forest Deptt celebrates World Ozone day 2019

Jammu, Sept 17: World Ozone day 2019 was celebrated by Forest East Circle, Jammu in collaboration with State Forest Research Institute here at Forest Information Centre.
The function was attended by the field staff of Jammu forest and Forest guard trainees of Miran Sahib Soil Conservation School.
Director SFRI, OP Sharma was the chief guest, while DFO Jammu Alok Kumar Maurya chaired the function.
This year theme of World Ozone Day is '32 years and Healing' which celebrates the three decades of remarkable international cooperation to protect the Ozone Layer and the climate under the Montreal Protocol. It also reminds the people to keep up the momentum to ensure healthy people and a healthy planet.
In his address, the chief guest stressed the need of professionalism at the cutting edge level which is the Forest guards. He stressed that the achievement of the forest department depends on the hard work of the field staff and encouraged all to maintain eco-friendly touch and spread awareness even to the most remote areas. He said recent NGT directions to establish Biodiversity Management Committees in each Panchayat is a welcome step to conserve the rich biodiversity of the state and ensure benefit sharing with the local guardians of the vast ecological wealth.
The DFO Jammu stressed on the urgent need of protecting the Ozone Layer and working together to achieve Montreal Protocol goals.
Conservator Forest East, Samuel Changkija presented the Keynote address and gave the background and significance of the World Ozone Day 2019. He stated that World Ozone Day is observed on September 16 every year to spread awareness among people about the depletion of Ozone Layer and search possible solutions to preserve it.
Sunil Singh DFO Urban Jammu lead the declaration of the Pledge by all the participants to avoid ozone depleting habits and adopt ozone saving habits and concluded with vote of thanks.
