NC may lose power if it fails to contest the elections
9/17/2019 9:54:25 PM
Winning horses never give up their race. This applies to the National Conference which has decided to contest the Assembly elections after the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Two days after meeting Abdullahs, the National Conference (NC) Member Parliament from north Kashmir, Muhammad Akbar Lone, said his party would enter into electoral politics only after J&K statehood was restored."As a political party, we (NC) are supposed to be in the field and fight elections. But, we will contest any election only after restoration of J&K's statehood. That is our pre-condition," Lone said.He had a meeting with NC President Farooq Abdullah and later had an hour ,long meeting with NC vice president, Omar Abdullah, and this means that the father and son duo may have have suggested to Lone to dish out preconditions for contesting the elections..
Lone was allowed to meet his party leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, on Thursday on directions of the J&K High Court. abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two union territories. The decision saw unprecedented communication blockade, restrictions on public movement and crackdown on political leaders in the state.it also blurred the lines dividing political parties in Kashmir which were unequivocally seeking the rescinding of August 5 decision.
"We (mainstream parties) will sit with all stakeholders and devise a strategy to fight for the restoration of Article 370. There is a consensus among us and our motive will be to restore Article 370 in the long run," Lone said. "The restoration of Article 370 is a long struggle and will take years."Lone warned of a steep rise in militancy because of the abrogation of 370 and blamed the BJP of behaving "arrogantl. He may be claiming to see drift in the security situation but there are parties which are prepared to contest the elections without restoration of erstwhile constitutional guarantees. This means that the field may be open for the PDP to cont est the elections successfully and hitherto National Conference seemed a lucky guy by winning the elections. Yes,it has voiced concern over the abrogation of Article 370 but will it implement its preconditions ?It is not possible for the centre to restore Article 370 and 35-A and if the NC does not yield and stop contesting the elections it may miss the bus by losing all the seats.Once the National Conference was considered toi be the winning candidate but if its stopped contgesting the elections it may ,lose power game.
