Jammu, Sept 17: The cat is out of the bag. Three time Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and incumbent Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah has been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and his home has been declared as a Sub-Jail.
The 81-year old National Conference Patron, Dr Farooq is one of the most flamboyant politicians of Kashmir. He has had a bumpy ride during his political career spanning around five decades.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The government slapping PSA against senior Abdullah is a clear message to all the Kashmir-centric politicians that they can no longer keep on sailing in two boats. If they want to be a part of the mainstream camp they have to learn to speak in one language. They can not keep on harping about Kashmir being a dispute and Pakistan a stakeholder."
"It is after 70 years that the Government of India has drawn a clear line. No anti-national rhetoric will be tolerated. The Kashmir-centric leaders who during the past 70 years have acted as an impediment towards securing national interest will have to make a course correction to remain relevant. If they don't do so they could end up in a big trouble," the analyst added.
A Kashmir watcher said, "The NDA 2.0 has made it clear from the day one that it means business and anyone who tries to act as a road block in its functioning will be dealt with sternly."
He said that the traditional politicians in Kashmir have been left with only a few options. "Either they will have to say goodbye to politics or they will have to fall in line. During the past 70 years they raised slogans which they felt would fetch them votes. They used green cloth and rock salt to lure the voters and tell the people that Kashmir is a separate entity and its future hasn't been decided yet."
An observer said, "Kashmir-centric leaders during the past 70 years kept on telling the people that J&K's accession with Union of India is temporary and if they want they can snap ties with Delhi anytime."
He said, "Kashmir-centric politicians will have to revisit their way of politics to keep their political parties intact. If they don't do so they will have to wind up their shops and look for some other profession. New Jammu & Kashmir is likely to be without the leaders who misled the people since independence."
