Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 18: In a major power push for Jammu and Kashmir, Union Power Minister RK Singh on Wednesday inaugurated 15 projects and launched work on 20 others Speaking at the occasion, RK Singh said that the government was working towards ensuring 24X7 electricity in Jammu and Srinagar soon.
"We have two goals for the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. First is to provide power supply will be better this winter. I will visit this December again to ensure that. The second goal is 24x7 supply of power," said RK Singh said.
Also present at the event, Governor Satyapal Malik assured that the government will work towards providing 24X7 electricity before winter.
The Union minister said that J&K has the potential of not just producing the power for its consumption but also for export.
The JK and Ladakh has the potential of not only having its power but also selling it to the rest of the country. This will increase the per capita income of the people. This is what Bhutan and Nepal are doing. All developed countries have harnessed their power capacity. That is what we will try to achieve here," RK Singh said.
As per the government, Jammu and Kashmir was the state to achieve 100 per cent electrification. "I had thought in J&K it would be difficult. The great thing is that the state not only made it in time but it made it before the time that is why they have won the award for this," RK Singh further added.
Jammu and Kashmir has always faced difficulties in meeting the demand for the electricity supply. During the winter months, power cuts and curtailment schedules is a common thing, particularly for the Valley.
