Div Com asks for promoting the historical town to attract tourists

Jammu, Sept 19: Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma today conducted an extensive tour of Akhnoor Tehsil under public outreach programme and listened to people's issues at a Gramsabha in Panchayat Kathar. The Div Com also held a meeting with elected representatives of Municipal Committee and the staff where he directed for promoting the historical Akhnoor town to attract tourists. The Div Com was accompanied by ADC, Rishpal Singh, ACD Aijaz Qaiser, Sub Divisional Magistrate Akhnoor, Gopal Singh, Joint Director Tourism, Block Development Officer, Tehsildar, besides Engineers of PWD, PHE, PDD, I&FC, senior functionaries of Social welfare and other Tehsil level officers.
A large number of people including PRIs and locals of Panchayat Balgara, Ghrattal, Kandi, Kathar, Maira Mandrian, Nardi and Queer attended the Gramsabha.
The Sarpanchs put forth their demands seeking improved road connectivity, renovation of school buildings, Health facilities, upgradation of PHE and PDD infrastructure.
The PRIs apprised the Div Com that people are facing problems due to lack of adequate staff in health centres, poor power scenario and shortage of water supply.
They also complained about inadequate staff and dysfunctional toilets in some schools. They also submitted a memorandum of demands to Div Com.
The Div Com issued on the spot directions to the concerned departments for resolving the projected issues. He assured the PRIs that all the genuine demands would be met on priority.
The officers concerned informed that most of works have already been approved under languishing projects.
Later, the Div Com held a meeting with the Chairman, ward members and staff of Municipal Committee Akhnoor and listened to their demands.
Responding to the demand for promotion of tourism in the town, the Div Com asked Director Tourism to formulate a plan envisaging maintenance of old heritage buildings and creating of tourism facilities to attract tourists to the historic town.
