Awareness prog on "Solid Waste Management, No Plastic, Polythene usage' held

Jammu, Sept 21: District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, under the Chairmanship of V.C Koul, Principal District & Sessions Judge Jammu and under the supervision of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary DLSA today organised an awareness programme on "Solid Waste Management" and "No Plastic/Polythene usage, Conservation of Environment" at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar.
The event was aimed at to educate the students about the significance of cleanliness and hygiene in our life for sustainable development of the society besides ensuring safety and protection of children in educational institutions. Secretary DLSA apprised the students of cleanliness measures initiated by the Center government for making "Clean lndia, Green India". He emphasized upon complete enforcement of ban on use of polythene bags and proper disposal of both degradable and non-biodegradable waste. He stressed upon the need of strict adherence to all rules and laws of Solid Waste Management for creating a healthy environment. This is the time to say "No to use of Plastic/Polythene", he added. Expert on Solid waste Management, Zorawar Singh, lso enlightened the students about the hazardous effects of using Plastics/Polythene. Principal Parveen Akhter, faculty member, Shalini Gupta from Commerce Stream, students Ripanya Choudhary and Bavleen kour also enlightened the gathering with their expertise and experience on the subject. Later, an interactive session with students of the host school was held. A pledge was also taken at the culmination of the programme to keep our environment clean and safe.
