Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 21: It could be called ill-planning or probably deliberate attempt of Higher Education department officials, that contractual faculty members working in various government degree colleges have been badly disturbed by the acts of department.
The decision taken by department in last few months has put the future of contractual faculty members in jeopardy and from now onwards, the contractual faculty members would not get experience certificate from the department.
Sources informed Early Times that the department effected the transfer of regular faculty members, months after the engagement of contractual faculties in various colleges. "The department sought requirements from the colleges for the engagement of contractual faculty in the beginning of each session in April month in Jammu. The contractual faculty members are engaged as per the requirements in various colleges but in the month of August-September, the department issued transfer orders of regular faculty members from city colleges to peripheral colleges", sources said.
Some contractual lecturers had joined the colleges far-distant from their residential areas. "Some lecturers had shifted themselves to their new places of postings and some of them had also got admitted their children in the schools adjoining to their places of postings", sources said, adding that after working for only two-three months, the department issued transfer orders, thus posting regular faculty members into the colleges, where contractual lecturers were posted.
"When a regular faculty member joined in a college, the contractual faculty are no more required. In this way, many contractual have suffered and some more are likely to suffer in near future as the department has been mulling to effect more transfer orders", sources said.
Lashing out at the department the contractual lecturers said that it was a manipulated decision only to disturb the contractual faculties as department has been working against the contractual faculty.
"It was decided by department that from next session, instead of contractual faculty members, guest faculty will be engaged but the order has now been implemented from this session as several colleges have engaged guest faculty", sources said, adding that these guest faculty would also get less emoluments and no experience certificates as they would be engaged for merely three months.
"On one hand Supreme Court had directed for equal pay for equal work but instead of providing equal salary as regular faculty, the department has been working tirelessly to disturb the contractual faculty and qualified youth", they said.
