Hundreds of commercial vehicles plying without permits on Mendhar road | Vehicles with Punjab, Haryana registration numbers ruling roost | | Rajesh Tandon Early Times Report POONCH, Sept 22: Despite massive amendments in new Motor Vehicle Act, wherein provisions of heavy penalty has been made for traffic violators, the law breakers it seem are ready to relent. Hundreds of private commercial vehicles particularly with registration numbers of other states have been making open violations as these vehicles have been plying without permits in tehsil Mendhar of district Poonch. Sources told Early Times that the private vehicles with registration numbers of Punjab and Haryana, which are mostly 'Sumos' have been doing commercial activities in the town and other parts of the Mendhar tehsil under the very nose of the authorities concerned. "These vehicles have been plying unchecked but the traffic police which have the main responsibility to keep tab on such violations by imposing penalty has failed to perform as it is letting these people to commit offence since these drivers allegedly give commission to enforcement agencies for safe passage. Such vehicles should be seized at once. The nexus created by the owners of vehicles with registration numbers of other states should be eradicated and the offenders should be brought to book. Plying of such vehicles is a serious issue from the security point of view also," said sources. They further said that due to this nexus which has been running in active support of the authorities concerned, the locals are being deprived of getting legal permits. "These vehicles cross various nakas laid down by the local Executive police from Bus Stand to other parts of tehsil but never get checked. Moreover, 50 percent of such drivers have no license and have no proper documents," they said. ARTO Poonch, Jugal Sharma, when contacted in this connection told Early Times that they have been doing lot of things to put curb on this illegal practice by imposing challans. "We alone can't stop this practice unless other enforcement agencies like Traffic police and Executive police come together against these violators," ARTO said. |
