Govt announced spree of new college, already announced GDC Kalakote lacks requisite manpower and infrastructure

Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: Recently, the Higher Education department had announced new 50 degree colleges but already functional colleges which were announced with fanfare in 2010, have been craving for requisite permanent manpower and infrastructure.
Sources informed Early Times that the department of Higher Education had announced GDC Kalakote in year of 2010 but till date the college is running in makeshift arrangement that too in five rooms hired from the Government Higher Secondary School Kalakote.
"Since the announcement of college, the department concerned offered nine subjects but ironically only two permanent faculty of Political Science and Arabic is deputed while other were deputed on academic arrangement", said sources while whishing anonymity.
Sources further said that however, strength of college student was 150 which were enrolled in nine subjects viz English, Hindi, Education, EVS, Sociology Urdu, Economic, Arabic and Political Science but ironically only two permanent faculties is available.
The callousness on part of higher education department can be gauged from this fact that the Principal post of above mentioned college is lying vacant for last eight months and the department concerned assigned DDO's power to Principal of GDC, Thanamandi, Dr. Javed Ahmed Kazi as additional charge but his non-availability is suffering the college functioning a lot, said another sources.
The Govt Degree College Thanamandi is situated nearly 55 Km away from GDC Kalakote and it is very difficult to anyone(Principal Thanamandi) to move both the colleges on regular basis. So, the GDC Kalakote had appointed one person (engaged on academic arrangement) for official communication with Drawing and Disbursing Office, said official.
"However, the college has one each sanctioned post of Junior and Senior Assistants but both the post have been not fulfilled since the college is functioning, resulting the two permanent faculty is also doing additional work of clerical staff. The college has only orderly post is fulfilled that too going vacant in April 2020 due to his superannuation", sources added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the construction work of college building was allotted to Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board and set the deadline of completion in May 2019 but due to many reason, the work of college is still incomplete and now the executing agency set new deadline for completion in March 2020.
