State Judicial Academy organises training for Judicial Magistrates of Jammu province

JAMMU, Sept 29: Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy today organised a training programme for the Judicial Magistrates of Jammu province, on "Experts' Evidence, with specific emphasis on Evidentiary Value of such evidence".
Eminent resource persons Dr. M. Narayana Reddy and GVHV Prasad from Truth Labs, Forensic Service, Hyderabad conducted the training sessions.
Dr. Raddy is former Principal, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad and presently a Director at Truth Labs, while Prasad is also a Director at Truth Labs. They have earlier also conducted training programmes in the State of Jammu and Kashmir for Public Prosecutors and Forensic Analysts, organised by the State Judicial Academy.
Prasad, in first session, gave introduction to various legal aspects of law dealing with experts' evidence and in elaboration of it dealt with principles of Forensic Examination & Analysis, and relevance of Forensic Science in Criminal and Civil Trials. In another session he dealt with the aspects of evidentiary value of Forensic reports/opinions in Questioned Documents & Finger Prints, Forensic Chemistry, Explosives & Narcotics and Cyber & Audio-visual Forensics. In his presentation, he highlighted the standard operating procedures for ensuring the integrity of the analysis and authenticity of the reports and opinions rendered by the experts based on such analysis.
Dr. Raddy talked about the Evidentiary Value of Forensic reports in Medico-legal Evidence in criminal trials. His presentation was based on the case studies and his personal experience in handling large number of such cases. He also related the case studies with various settled case laws from Supreme Court and various High Courts. He also discussed the international scenario in this field. He also spoke on the value of reports of Forensic Ballistics, Toxicology & DNA in criminal and civil trials.
In the interactive discussions during the sessions, the participants discussed the aspects of the Forensic Reports and Opinions to which they are confronted during trials of cases by them. They also discussed the latest scientific developments in the field of Forensic Science and work undertaken by the Government and private Forensic Labs in India.
Rajeev Gupta, Director State Judicial Academy moderated the programme and presented vote of thanks.
