NC PDP yet to decide whether they would contest the BDC elections
10/9/2019 11:31:45 PM

Kashmir centric parties are yet to decide whether they would contest the Block Development elections when the schedule has been fixed October 24..These Kashmir centric parties are opposed to abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A and the move is believed that it is a soft line to woo voters. With less than three weeks to go for the conduct of Block Development Council (BDC) elections, political parties, amid the continued lockdown across Kashmir, are divided over their participation in these polls scheduled to be held on October 24.However, on the other hand the BJP and the Congress have decided to contest the elections simply to show their support from the voters.
The national-level parties, the BJP and Congress, have already made it clear that they would be participating in the forthcoming polls, while the regional parties, National Conference (NC) and PDP, are yet to take any final decision. The top brass of various parties barring the BJP have been under detention since August 5 when the Central government abrogated Article 370 and divided the state into two union territories that was coupled with restrictions and a communication blockade. It is not only anger against abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A but it is part of the campaign against the centre for keeping senior party leaders under detention. Possibly these NC and PDP leaders want to oppose contesting the BDC elections as an anger against their detention.
The National Conference has indicated that it would take a decision to participate in the elections only after a meeting of the party's working committee. A delegation of the NC from Jammu led by the provincial president Devender Rana met Farooq Abdullah, who is under detention in Srinagar. Rana said any decision to participate in the elections would be taken only after a meeting of the party's working committee, and unless the leaders are released, this would not be possible. Indications are that the NC leaders may contest the BDC elections because they would tell people that their success is the result of their anger against revocation of Article 370 and 35-A.This is the opportune time for the NC leaders to contest the BDC elections because they have a chance to win these elections.
