JPPF opposes new Toll Plaza at Sarore, demands its roll back
10/13/2019 10:04:16 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 13: Ridiculing the state administration for levying another road tax at the newly created Toll Plaza at Sarore on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, the Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF) has termed it as unwarranted, unlawful and anti-people and demanded immediate rollback as the said levy seems to be the handiwork of some middle rung officers at their own level without consulting the government.
While addressing a meeting of the Forum, its president Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj expressed deep concern on the heavy toll tax being charged already at the Ban Toll Plaza on Jammu-Udhampur stretch of the National Highway from more than a crore yatries and tourists every year visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Shri Amarnathji and other shrines besides the local commuters visiting Katra and Udhampur daily.
There has been a resentment for such a high levy which has been brewing since quite some time which has further added fuel to the fire by the establishing of another Toll Plaza at Sarore which is just rubbing salt on the existing wounds when the people's anger against levying heavy taxes on the Registration of Vehicles by the RTO has not subsided.
Talking about the harsh attitude against angry public and that too at the fag end when the state is passing through the transition stage in the evolution of Union territory, Singh made it clear that brewing public anger will create an atmosphere forcing them to resort to roads which will be inimical in the interest of the prevailing situation of unrest which is subsiding slowly. Even otherwise there is no logic in establishing 3 Toll Plazas at Hiranagar, Sarore and Ban over a short distance of 120 Kms which is not admissible under rules.
Besides working president MS Katoch the meeting was attended by Inderjeet Khajuria, RS Jamwal, ML Sharma, Avinash Bhatia, Rajinder Gupta and others.
