Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 13: The Academic calendar issued by Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) for government schools has been thrown to dustbin by District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET) offices, which have announced exams for various classes in mid-October, instead of mentioned scheduled in mid-November. Sources informed Early Times that the DSEJ had issued Academic-Calendar for government school according to which the teachers and masters have been asked to follow the calendar strictly and covered syllabus in classes 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th and do other academic works as per the calendar.
The DSEJ had also constituted monitoring teams, comprising of officials from DIET offices and these teams had visited various schools of all districts to ensure the implementation of Academic-Calendar by every schools.
"According to Academic Calendar the Terminal-I exams for class 8th and 9th are scheduled to be held in second week of November but the DIET offices have issued the date-sheet according to which the exams for both these classes are starting from October 16-22, which is total violation of the calendar", an official said.
The official further stated that as per Academic Calendar, the schools have to complete revision of syllabus in the month of October but now the exams have been started, creating much confusion. "The exams of Terminal-1 for classes 5th to 8th are also scheduled to be held in mid October, which was also violation", official said, adding that if the DIET offices would not follow the Academic-Calendar issued by DSEJ, then why such teams had ensured the implementation of Calendar.
"It appears that there is no coordination between DIET offices and the DSEJ or how it can be possible that DIET offices disregard the higher authority's order. It could be that case that DSEJ has permitted the DIET offices to conduct the exams, violating their own calendar, which is most unfortunate", the official said, adding that the Governor administration must take cognizance of the matter and fix the responsibility for total collapse of entire exercise.
