RAMBAN, Oct 14: According to the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ramban, Nazim Zai Khan, district administration has banned vehicular traffic except three and two wheelers on Bailey Suspension Bridge over river Chenab at Maitra, Ramban with immediate effect till further orders to avoid any untoward incident.
Pertinent to mention here that due to on- going construction work of NH-44 highway traffic has also been noticed plying on this bridge which made the bridge more vulnerable to breakdown besides Border Road Organization (BRO) too had already declared Bailey Suspension Bridge unsafe for vehicular traffic.
DC informed that a team of experts is inspecting the bridge to finalize the report for strengthening the bridge and make it traffic worthy. It is felt necessary for safety of public at large, that heavy vehicular traffic needs to stop plying on the said bridge, he added. |
