5th J&K Agricultural Science Congress inaugurated at SKUAST-J

Jammu, Oct 14: A three-day mega event i.e., 5th Jammu & Kashmir Agricultural Science Congress was inaugurated at the Baba Jito Auditorium of Main Campus Chatha of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. The Congress on the theme "Climate Change Management for Sustainable Agriculture, Livestock Farming and Ecological Development" is being organized in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science & Technology Government of Jammu and Kashmir . Dr. Nirmal Singh, Speaker JK Legislative Assembly and former Deputy Chief Minister of the State was the chief guest in the inaugural function who started the programme with the lighting of the lamp in the presence of other dignitaries and more than 300 delegates from all over the country.Dr Singh opined that attaining livelihood security, sustainable food production and environmental protection has always been a challenging task and he expressed happiness that such a congress which focuses challenges on climate change management for sustainable agriculture and livestock farming is being organized in SKUAST-J. He further stressed on plantation of horticultural trees and crops so that the problem of soil erosion is minimized in slopy lands. He hoped that recommendations derived out from the deliberations on various issues will go a long way in meeting the targets of food grain production without depletion of natural resources in a sustainable manner.
