Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: Taking strong exception to the acts of omissions and commissions in the establishment of three new tolls plazas, the J&K State Director of the War Decorated India, Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, a distinguished Vir Chakra awarded septuagenarian Veteran Warrior said "It is not matter of money, the honour of exemption from paying tolls throughout the National and State Highways to distinguished awarded & decorated War Veterans is granted by the President of India". The orders are contained in GoI Gazette, GSR No. 62(E) 6.2 1997, GSR No. 336(E) dated 13.4 2000, Section 8A of National Highways Act 1956 (48 of 1956 and para (B) of notification No. NH-11065/15/2002-P&M dated 27. 10. 2003. He pointed out that as per the notifications, the list of those exempted the Tolls tax includes gallantry medals awarded distinguished warriors like Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra & Shaurya Chakra. The veteran warrior turned journalist and Senior Editor of a national monthly magazine pointed out in a press note that the categories of the gallant warriors have been omitted from the boards displayed at the new tolls plazas. It is in serious disregard to the distinguished warriors who have fought, got wounded and mostly got martyred in service to defend the integrity of the Nation. It also flouts the GoI orders notified in the Gazette.
