Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 16: Despite incessant thrust of Prime Minister of India as well as Ministry of Ayush to develop and promotion of Indian System of Medicine (ISM) but the state government has utterly failed to do so as lone Government Ayurvedic College Jammu which was announced in 2011, is still lacking permanent faculty as well as infrastructure.
Sources informed Early Times that the construction work of said college and its associated hospital was started in year, 2011 and announced that the entire infrastructure would be completed within five years from the date of started and Rs 26 Crores was stand released but ironically the building is still incomplete.
"In year, 2017-2018, the college started first batch of BAMS at Ayurvedic Hospital Indira Chowk Jammu and during the first batch, the then Health and Medical Education Minster, Bali Bhagat had announced that next year (2018-2019), the next batch of BAMS would be started at its own building at Akhnoor where construction work is going on full swing. Now, the Ayurvedic College Jammu has started third batch but the building is still not completed so far", said sources while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that instead of permanent teaching faculty of 35 members to run the college, there are only 15 faculty members that too engaged on stop gap arrangement.
"The nonchalant attitude of government toward Ayush can be gauged from the fact that the government still not appointed Principal of the College so far and charge of the college has been given to Principal of Government Medical College Jammu", said a faculty member.
With the announcement of Government Ayurvedic College of Jammu, the state government also announced that five new medical colleges at Kathua, Rajouri, Doda, Baramulla and Anantnag would also be developed. Now, new Medical College has gotten permanent faculty as well as other staff but the lone Ayurvedic Medical College is facing step motherly treatment that too under the rule of BJP government that always seems interested in promotion and development of Indian System of Medicine, said administrator of Ayurvedic College.
It is pertinent to mention here that initially, Government Ayurvedic College Jammu was started functioning as college in year 1975 and had been closed down in 1981 with the only one batch of BAMS passing out. It was after nearly 36 years, the Union government once again approved Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government at the Centre but the State government seems least bothered about it.
