Anti- graft body since 2012 proved parasite for state exchequer, punished no single corrupt Babu
Govt to shut down State Accountability Commission for ever

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 16: The misplaced claims of the previous governments in Jammu and Kashmir abut reining in the corruption are falling flat at present when skeletons are tumbling out of the closets every day.
The State Accountability Commission (SAC) was established in the year 2012 amid fanfare with rulers then making claims of eradicating the corruption menace and making the ministers and higher officials accountable before the public. However, at present the government is in a file state of closing down the commission as Jammu and Kashmir is all set to become a Union Territory.
Also, the government has realised how till date, since 2012, the SAC has punished not even a single minister or a politician. The Commission which since the year 2003 has turned out to be a mere toothless tiger is witnessing the corruption cases shelved sans any action. There seems to be on ground no remorse and regret over the menace of corruption ruling the roost in the already perturbed state of Jammu and Kashmir. The official dispensation here is making a least effort in putting behind the bars those who have plundered the public money and filled their own coffers.
Despite the news reports making rounds earlier that the government was mulling to appoint chairman of SAC, so far no such decision is seen getting concretised with people feeling bewildered on many fronts than just one.
SAC which was constituted in 2003 witnessed the appointment of late justice R.P. Sethi as its Chairman. With the tainted babus and ministers started feeling tremors, irony shrouded the entire initiative. As it was expected that something tangible is going to happen, scams, embezzlements started coming out from the Government kitty, rendering the Commission as a toothless tiger.
More ironic and surprising is that not even a single minister with the alleged tainted past has been punished by the commission since its inception with the inaction of the past regimes letting the corrupt to fly on sky nine.
As people had pinned much hopes that the establishment of SAC would make the helmsmen more accountable before the common masses, making the commission powerless has once again vindicated the saying that ministers can never be punished, not now, not then.
SAC proved no different from SHRC wherein human rights issues are only piled up and the files gather dust every day after in the civil secretariat.
Now, when the government is claiming to be making all efforts in the appointment of SAC chairman and members with measures being taken to strengthen the commission, masses in Jammu and Kashmir are keenly watching whether the resurrected SAC would be any different from the earlier one. Whether action against tainted will be taken with the earnest efforts to make the state corrupt free or the commission would once again be rendered as a power less house wherein only files would pile up and action would continue to remain a distant dream.
An official told Early Times that the government is of the opinion that this ant-graft body has so far remained limited to the papers only and that with the creation of the Union territory, this graft body may see its closure.
