'Dark' Diwali for teachers engaged under NPS

Jammu, Oct 16: It seems new clothes, sweets boxes, crackers and other goodies will not light up in the homes of number of teachers, who have been engaged under New Pension Scheme (NPS) of the School Education Department as they have not received salary for the last five months due to the callous approach of the concerning higher authority.
Castigating the Education Department over its lackadaisical approach, wishing anonymity, a group of teachers informed that thousands of teachers under NPS working in difficult conditions braving all odds are reeling under agonizing conditions In Ramnagar and other parts of the Jammu and the authority at the helm of affairs have shut their eyes over the plight of the teachers.
The teachers falling under the NPS of the School Education Department are without salaries for the last five months, whereas in several zones they have not received their salaries. The teachers have expressed serious concern over the unprecedented delay in the release of salary.
The teachers said that they have to go for off places to perform their duties but without salary, they find many problems even they celebrated many festivals empty pockets. "I was planning to buy some new clothes, other goodies for my children, but may well have to drop the idea as salary has not been released by the concerned authority on time," a teacher said.
They told that various delegations of teachers met concerned authorities of the Education Department and apprised them of their issue but except promises, nothing has got. They said that the government should release their pending salaries at the earliest so that they may celebrate the coming Diwali festival.
Director School Education Anuradha Gupta said that the department did not get grants for the teachers engaged under NPS so far. She added that the matter has been taken up with the Finance Department and likely it will solve the issue within a week.
