Early Times Report

Poonch, Oct 17: The alleged mismanagement by Traffic Police of Poonch has resulted in huge traffic jam on Poonch road in the district during fruit season as there is maximum inflow of transport vehicles for transportation of fruits from Kashmir.
Sources told Early Times that with the onset of fruit season, the State has been witnessing huge number of transport trucks hailing from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Bihar etc. which come to transport Apple Fruit from Kashmir via Mugal Road.
"Huge traffic jam can be seen in JW Gali at Tehsil Surankote which remain for hours together creating inconvenience to the general public and the traffic police act as mute spectators. After 3 pm, there is huge traffic jam and it takes two hours to complete a distance 5 kms," said locals.
Besides this, the transporters alleged that Traffic Police harass them unnecessarily despite having complete documents of their trucks and ask for commission, which they have to pay to avoid waste of timing.
"We come to JK from far off States for apple transportation from Kashmir by traveling perilous road but Traffic Police particularly on Jammu-Poonch road create inconvenience by stopping us and demand commission. On refusing, police ask us to unload truck to check it," said Joginder Singh, a truck driver from Rajashthan.
While despite repeated attempts to contact DTI Poonch district, he didn't pick up phone for his comments. When contacted Deputy Superintendent of Police holding charges of Traffic wing of Rajouri and Poonch districts Rafiq said that there were some issues related to traffic jam in Poonch district as traffic from Kashmir side was also on movement which resulted in huge traffic jam. On being asked about the commission being taken by the traffic police on various nakas, the officer said he would take strict action if any complaint will be received by him.
