Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 17 Women fraternity on Thursday observed day long fasting as the festival of 'Karwachauth' was celebrated with fervour here.
'Karwachauth' is a festival celebrated particularly in North Indian states where women observe fast for the long age of their husband. The women wake up early morning and have traditional meals before the sunrise.
They breakfast only after having a glimpse of a moon in the night and during this period, the women not even take a glass of water.
However, winter capital wore festive look as grocery, cosmetic and sweet shops witnessed heavy rush of women.
Special 'mehandi' stalls were seen established in busy locations of Jammu city, which observed heavy rush.
The women folk were seen visiting the shopping malls, cinemas and markets for shopping.
However, the rates of fruit and milk products also touched rocket sky due to festive season.
The women fraternity also appealed to the state government to declare holiday on account of 'karwachauth' every year.
"The government should seriously give a thought to declare government holiday on this day as it will be beneficial especially for working women," said Kajal Sharma.
The women in the evening performed special prayers and offered sweets, fruits to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati after having first glimpse of the moon.
Meanwhile the 'City of Temples' witnessed hustle bustle in view of festive season.
Tight security arrangements were made in the city to keep check on any untoward like incident while traffic department had also issued advisories for vehicular management.
