Infighting intensifies in BJP after action against rebels
10/18/2019 10:36:10 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 18: Within hours after leadership expelled some leaders from the party for contesting Block Development Councils (BDCs) elections as independents, infighting has been intensified within BJP because some seniors have strongly opposed this action. These senior leaders have been giving shelters to these rebels who are contesting elections against official candidates of the party.
Credible sources said that some senior leaders have asked their supporters and loyalists to contest BDC elections as independents to teach a lesson to those who have managed party mandates despite their opposition. These senior leaders had tried their best to get mandates for most of the loyalists but those who could not manage mandates for their supporters have suggested them ( supporters) to contest as 'independents'.
Credible sources said it was all due blessing of senior leaders that a large number of BJP leaders have been contesting elections as rebels in most of the places in Jammu region. "State leadership has taken action against only those who have no godfather otherwise many leaders with the patronage of seniors are still in the fray as independents", sources said and added that official BJP candidates are likely to face tough battles due to these rebels.
Credible sources said that over 50 prominent activists and close relatives of senior leaders are contesting as rebels but the party has taken action against only seven just an eye-wash because party leadership lack guts to take action against other influential rebels.
The weak BJP was finding it difficult to take action against the party leaders contesting the BDC elections as rebels against the official nominees of the party due to the "patronage" of some senior leaders, including ex-MLAs.
On Thursday BJP leadership has expelled some party leaders for contesting as Independent candidates but no action has been taken against close relatives of some leaders who are also in the fray.
