Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 20: Samwad Theatre Group Chandigarh today presented Shankar Shesh's highly acclaimed play " Komal Gandhar' as the eighth production in the ongoing " Rangleela Natya Utsav-2109'.
"Komal Gandhar" is the foundation of Mahabharata's great war. This drama has focused on the sensitive issues like empowerment of women, misuse of power and politics. The play begins with Gandhari's journey where she is coming from Gandhar to marry Prince Dhritrashtra of Hastinapur.
She is not aware before the marriage that she is marrying to a blind person .During this, her brother Shakuni also comes with him to Hastinapur. Sanjay prevents this marriage from happening. Sanjay says that Kuruvansh is already suffering from the curse of Amba, Ambika. If injustice is done with Gandhari, Kuruvansh will get cursed but Bhishma won't believe it.
After Gandhari realizes that Dhritarashtra cannot see and she have been used as a pawn in the game of politics, she determines to convert her anger into a revenge by blindfolding her eyes forever and says "she have got married for the lure of running the Rajkul, and she will never allow it to happen".
The play progressed to showcase similar unethical episodes which find their reflection in contemporary life also.
Jyoti Bhardwaj as Bhishm, Sachin Sharma as Sanjay, Sanjay Kumar as Dhritrashtra , Heera Singh as Shakuni, Mayank Singh as Duryodhan, and Diksha Sharma as Gandhari gave a scintillating performance that was highly applauded by the audience.
The national theatre festival being conducted by Lakshya -The Aim is co-powered by Nutan Pryas Manch.
Sets , light and music gave the strength to the production which set a benchmark of the national theatre festival 'Rangleela'. Costumes matched the era of the epic that added to the flavor of the production.
