Corrupt practices thrive in Kashmir
10/20/2019 10:58:36 PM
On one side there is a lot of corruption in Jammu and Kashmir, on the other had The details of the government's policy to attract more investments in Jammu and Kashmir would be available very soon, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, listing out the potential the area carries for investors in sectors like tourism, handicrafts, silk, production of saffron and apple. Sizeable amount is wasted on Government projects and this wastage is the result of corrupt practices. If the Government of India sets up a body of experts to probe into the high level of corrupt pr actices and the body of experts will find that not more than 10 per cent funds have been utilised properly..
Sitharaman made the comments while responding to a question during an interactive session with investors at the IMF headquarters here recently. The event was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and US India Strategic and Partnership Forum. We have started working in terms of making sure that the full potential of Jammu and Kashmir from various different aspects (is achieved)," she said. The minister listed out the investment possibilities Jammu and Kashmir carries in different sectors like tourism, fine arts, handicrafts, wood work, carpets, silk, production of saffron and apple. "I think sooner the details of it (new policy) will be available," she said. Whether a new policy or the old one people connected with the execution of the central Government projects will not learn a lesson and those that fly in the market over corrupt practices may not be able to change. You have posh houses in Srinagar, that too with acceiible roads and each person has two to three cars indicaticaing that northing has been a successful mission. New colonies have come up and in each colony one can have .three to four storeyed Houses and each house has something to concel. While business flourishes and this indicates that either the buyers have bought migrants' property for a song or they have been assisted by the Hawala money. And Pakistan and other muslims countries support people in Kashmir with pecuniary gains and that is the reason for prosperity.
