Ensure availability of basic minimum facilities in schools: Div Com to DCs

JAMMU, Oct 21: Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma today directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure that basic minimum facilities i.e toilets, drinking water, electricity supply, adequate number of class rooms, play grounds are made available in all the Government schools of Jammu division.
The Div Com issued the directions while reviewing availability of basic minimum facilities in schools of the division and other related issues here at a meeting with concerned officers.
The Deputy Commissioners apprised the Div Com about the number of schools having the facilities besides in their respective districts. It was informed that majority of the schools have basic facilities while some schools are lacking and steps are afoot to fill the gaps.
The concerned officers informed that the works have already been approved for water, power supply schemes besides construction of toilets, play grounds and additional class rooms.
The Div Com directed the Deputy Commissioners to personally monitor the execution of works for making available the basic minimum facilities in all the schools of their respective districts.
Meanwhile, the Div Com also reviewed the Mid Day Meal scheme, procurement and availability of nutrition for schools and Anganwari centres besides validation of accounts and supervision by PRIs.
The DCs informed that committees have been constituted for procurement of nutrition and joint accounts of PRIs have also been opened in all the districts while training of PRIs in some districts is pending. The Div Com asked the concerned to conduct the trainings at the earliest. The meeting was attended by ADC Jammu, Dr Tahir Firdous, Deputy Director Planning, Chaman Lal, District Panchayat Officer, Sunaina Saini, Chief Education Officer Jammu, Sat Pal Sharma besides senior functionaries of PHE, ICDS and other concerned while the Deputy Commissioners along with other concerned officers of Jammu Division attended the meeting through video conferencing.
