F&DA challans several food business establishments

JAMMU, Oct 24: A team of Food & Drugs Administration has challaned several food business establishments during a special market checking drive launched in view of ongoing festival season.
The FDA has intensified the special drive against the Food Establishments especially Halwai/sweetshop/Milk shops across Jammu Division to ensure availability of safe & Wholesome food products especially Sweets & khoya to the General Public during the festival season.
During the drive, three establishments in Municipal Limit Jammu were sealed for carrying out business without License/Registration as mandated under law. Over 99 samples of Milk & Milk Products viz. Milk, Khoya & Sweets which include GulabJamun, Rasgulla, Barfi, Milk Cake etc. were lifted during the last two days from various places and sent to the Food Analyst, Public Health Laboratory Jammu to ascertain its quality as per the standards prescribed under FSS Act , Rules & Regulations.
Moreover 6 Quintal of sweets was destroyed on spot in District Doda/Samba/Poonch/Municipal limit Jammu and 24 challan were recommended against the Halwai Shops for manufacturing the sweets under insanitary & unhygienic conditions.
Meanwhile the Food Analyst, Public Health Laboratory has tested 216 samples of various food articles during this Month till date, out of which 38 have been declared not of standard Quality. The prosecution against the defaulting Food Business Operators shall be launched in due course of time.
The General Public is advised to purchase sweets only from Registered/Licensed Food Business operators and check the list of ingredients in case of packed sweets to ensure the kind of oil/Ghee used for their preparation. In case of any complaint regarding the quality of any food article in Jammu Division, the Consumer is advised to registered their complaint through email [email protected] for further investigation and action as per provision laid down under the aforesaid Act.
