Advisor Sharma for undertaking comprehensive measures to augment housing facilities

SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Advisor to Governor, KK Sharma today directed undertaking comprehensive measures for augmenting housing facilities being provided to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Advisor was speaking at 47th Board of Directors meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board here today.
Financial Commissioner Finance, Arun Mehta, Principal Secretary Planning, Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Devlopment, Dheeraj Gupta, MD Housing Board and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
The Advisor while reviewing the functioning of the Housing Board called for undertaking measures for its improvement so that the projects being undertaken by them are completed within the stipulated timeframe cutting the cost escalation and other related issues. He said that they should also formulate a mechanism for ensuring that the works being undertaken by them are tendered properly so that more people and agencies could participate and making it more broad based resulting in quality implementation of works.
While highlighting the mandate of Housing Board, the Advisor directed coming up with new avenues of providing housing facilities to people both in group housing, vertical and plotted accommodation which should be in consonance with the modern architectural patterns and facilities.
He said that they should also engage some renowned consultancy services which would suggest necessary measures for development to create quality infrastructure.
The Advisor also directed the MD Housing Board to come up with a detailed roadmap of proper utilization of the land assets for undertaking measures for construction of vertical housing units for the prospective buyers maintaining that the cost effectiveness should be kept in consideration. He said that the proposed colonies and undergoing vertical constructions should be having all the requisite infrastructural facilities and related things.
The meeting also discussed issues like development of housing colonies at Rakh-i-Arth Bemina in Srinagar, Kot Balwal, Samba and Vijaypur in Jammu, proposed flatted accommodation in Sidhra under self financing scheme, and transfer of state land to J&K Housing Board.
