Reluctant to quit prize postings, 17 officials defy Chief Engineer's transfer orders

Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Oct 23: In a bizarre move, the ministerial staff (Junior and Senior Assistants) in Public Works Department (PWD,R&B) Udhampur-Katra have openly defied the transfer orders of their Chief Engineer even after the latter gave them two written reminders.
Pertinently, the first reminder was served on dated August 26, 2019 under reminder no As CEJ/EStab- 6596-99 and the other one was issued on September 5, 2019 under reminder no as CEJ/EStab-7682-85 withholding salaries of the erring employees.
Inside sources informed that on August 3, 2019 the Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) Jammu issued an order no CEJ/Estab-6145-50 for transfers and postings of 17 employees of ministerial staff. However, as many as nine Senior and eight Junior Assistants of the PWD did not join their new places of posting even today despite the lapse of over two months.
"When the officials failed to join their new places of posting the Chief Engineer send them two reminders on August 26 and September 5, 2019," they further said.
"The Chief Engineer even ordered that salaries of the erring officials should be withheld but they got their salaries released using their influence in the department and paid no heed to the transfer orders," sources said.
Sources informed that theses officials are part of a big illegal money minting mafia involving some more government officials and officers who earn handsome commissions illegally from the contractors and others for getting the works done or issuing the payment of work
"They earn lakhs of rupees in the form of commissions for moving files in PWD offices," the sources informed.
The mafia runs its network in many parts of the state mainly in Katra, Reasi and Udhampur areas.
Sources further informed that if they ignored the Chief Engineer's order it means these officials have their links with higher-ups in the department and also in political circles.
Surprisingly, such things are even going on after the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territory and authorities dealing the corrupt elements with iron hands.
When contacted the Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) Jammu Nasir Goni said that strict action will be taken against the erring officials who have defied the transfer orders.
