Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 23: With the Jammu and Kashmir administration seemingly failing to look into the interests of Jammu province since the abrogation of Article 370, a Middle-East based Multi-National Company (MNC) has visited restive Kashmir looking ahead to the invest in the militancy-infested valley.
Official sources said a five-member delegation of the UAE based firm recently visited the valley to hold discussions with the local businessmen, and also with the official machinery.
The multinational firm is willing to make million dollar investment in Kashmir and that the representatives of the firm held detailed discussions with the officials of the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO).
The MNC, which looks ahead to invest in the agriculture and food processing sector in Kashmir is understood to have held discussions with the fruit growers in Kashmir.
"They held discussions with the apple, walnut and saffron growers in particular," said a source privy to the discussion.
The sources said the delegation has asked samples of Saffron and Walnuts when.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir administration in general and the SIDCO in particular has assured the MNC of all possible help in opening their units in the militancy-infested Kashmir.
Sources said the firm looks ahead to establish infrastructure that can give employment to around 1,000 Kashmiri people.
But while being concerned towards the interests of restive Kashmir, the official machinery looks unconcerned to promote Jammu for business promotion.
"Logically speaking Jammu should be promoted as the main investment destination as unlike Kashmir there is no terrorism or separatist sentiment in the winter capital region… But what is actually happening is that the region which has opposed the historic abrogation of the special status and harbors separatist sentiment is being made the priority for development," said a senior official well versed with the business sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
When contacted a senior official admitted that a UAE based firm was interested to make investment in Kashmir and that its team held discussions with the administration.
