New Delhi, Oct 29: In a bid to reach to the last man on the border, Information and Broadcasting Ministry is all set to launch two high powered radio stations in Uri in Kashmir valley and Himbotingla in Ladakh.
According to Government officials, both radio stations will start functioning soon after the bifurcation of the Jammu and Kashmir state into two separate Union Territories comes into effect from October 31.
Both locations have been chosen for their strategic significance and are a part of the government's outreach to local population in both the new UTs.
Himbotingla, located at a height of over 13,000 feet, will be All India Radio's FM station perched at such a height as well as the world highest FM radio station. Both installations have been fitted with high power transmitters that allows for modulation of frequencies.
Keeping bad weather at such high altitude into consideration, the Ministry has ensured the round the clock functioning of high powered transmission centre with latest equipment.
These two radio stations will be giving AIR signal in FM to enable the availability of signal on "Alexa Voice Command" in car stereos and conventional radio receiver also.
"We are surrounded by those channels operating from outside of Line of Control (LoC) which are spreading falsehood and we take this opportunity to correct the falsehood and portray the truth", a senior government official said.
With the setting up of these two radio stations, the Government will reach out to households in the far flung areas in Ladakh where neighboiring countries also relay multi-lingual programmes, news, commentary which often include anti-India propaganda.
Meanwhile, the public broadcaster has recently increased its presence in newer parts of the hill regions and new FM installations have been installed in Patnitop, Naushera, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch and Bhaderwah, in addition to the existing setup in Jammu and Srinagar.
This is also seen as a move to enable the people living in border areas to get access to information related to developmental initiatives of the Government.
