As chorus for domicile gains momentum BJP maintains silence

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 8: Amid prevailing confusion among residents of Jammu after bifurcating J&K into two Union Territories (UTs), BJP leadership of J&K has maintained confusing silence on the demand of domicile like neighbouring Himachal Pardesh. Since October 31, when J&K was ceased into a State and formally bifurcated into two UTs, people are asking BJP leadership to fulfill promise of protecting land and job rights but all leaders are tight lipped on this issue because they themselves not sure whether such provision will be made or not.
After August 5, when Article 370 was removed and J&K's reorganisation act was passed in the Parliament, BJP leaders were asking people not to become 'victims' the 'malicious' campaign launched by some vested interests to create chaos and confusion after the 'historic' decisions taken by the Union Government. BJP leadership had assured to devise a mechanism to ensure that interests of Jammu residents must be protected. After abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K and Ladakh into two separate UTs, some social groups in Jammu region have raised the demand of a domicile-like option on the pattern of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh to protect the interests of locals. Not only non-BJP groups, even senior BJP leader and Speaker of Legislative Assembly Nirmal Singh had also endorsed the demand of domicile. "Soon, we are going to propose a domicile-like option for J&K. The local interests shall be protected. Like in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, agricultural land cannot be bought. This option is also in the mind of the Union Government," Singh had stated recently.
